Why can't I name my character Duke?

Well, I'd like to be able to name him Duke Avery to be sure... Why shouldn't titles be allowed to be used as names?

 

Because titles are titles. You can access them from the menu to change yours. That way someone who has not paid for the distinction of being a Lord cannot address himself as such. If you have a Duke pledge, you can always just go with a first name. (no last name is currently required.)

 

So I can't name my Duke as Duke Nukem?

 

As long as your first name is Nukem.. it would just say..

Right, but my character's last name is Avery. I also have a Duke pledge which is easily distinguishable as the title for Duke is colored gold - shouldn't be to difficult to see the difference between a name and a title.

Maybe give him a first name then? I've always been partial to Aloysius...

The answer is simple Duke it an Title Option. You don't need to make it just pick it.

Sure, the title can be selected after the character is created, I just don't see the need to make titles off limits for use as names. Titles aren't present in the social window, either - so, using a title in place of a name would throw everything off in social lists. Titles are already distinguished by placement, color, and font size - their use as a name is neither here nor there - I'll probably just have to rewrite my character at some point.

 

Can't ... "Earl" is off limits.

Is there a list of names that are not allowed to be used - I'm trying to create a new character - but apparently Blackthorn (as a last name) is a no-no.

 

Do you have an email adress for complaints. I have seen a player with the name Lord... Last name British

 

Unless you're Lord British, then you can use a title as a first name. I bet British is also a reserved last name regardless what first name you choose. Benefits of being a dev I guess.Can't even use titles as last names, like Shadow Lord.
